Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr. (born October 20, 1971), widely known as Snoop Dogg (formerly Snoop Doggy Dogg), is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, media personality, and actor. He first gained fame in 1992 with a guest appearance on Dr. Dre’s debut solo single, “Deep Cover,” and later on Dre’s album The Chronic. Since then, Snoop has sold over 23 million albums in the U.S. and 35 million worldwide, earning accolades including an American Music Award, a Primetime Emmy Award, and 17 Grammy nominations.
Snoop’s debut album, Doggystyle (1993), produced by Dr. Dre and released by Death Row Records, debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and went quadruple platinum. His second album, Tha Doggfather (1996), also topped the charts and received double platinum certification. After leaving Death Row in 1998, he joined No Limit Records, releasing a string of successful albums, including Da Game Is to Be Sold, Not to Be Told (1998) and Tha Last Meal (2000).
In 2002, Snoop moved to Priority, Capitol, and EMI Records, where he released Paid tha Cost to Be da Boss, featuring more commercial hits.
