Kate Middleton has been at the London Clinic since last week after undergoing a “planned” abdominal surgery, Kensington Palace announced last Wednesday.
She will most likely stay at the hospital for several more days before return to Windsor, where the Princess of Wales will recover and, as of today, not take on any royal duties until after Easter.
Over the last week, Kate has received hundreds of ‘get well’ messages from well-wishers on social media.
However, not everyone wants to wish Kate all the best, which has left a royal expert and fans furious, labeling it “disgusting.”
Kate Middleton has spent the last week at the London Clinic, recovering from her abdominal surgery. The Princess of Wales will stay at the private hospital for at least three more days but was likely to extend the stay for up to two weeks after the surgery.
Kate Middleton to stay at hospital after surgery
On Wednesday last week, Kensington Palace revealed that Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, had undergone a “planned” abdominal surgery and wouldn’t return to royal duty before Easter.
The Palace later clarified that Kate’s condition was “non-cancerous.”
“Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales was admitted to The London Clinic yesterday for planned abdominal surgery. The surgery was successful and it is expected she will remain in hospital for ten to fourteen days, before returning home to continue her recovery. Based on the current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter,” the statement from Kensington Palace on its social media pages.
“The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate. She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible; and her wish that her personal medical information remains private.”
The statement continued: “Kensington Palace will, therefore, only provide updates on Her Royal Highness’ progress when there is significant new information to share. The Princess of Wales wishes to apologise to all those concerned for the fact she has to postpone her upcoming engagements. She looks forward to reinstating as many as possible, as soon as possible.”
Once discharged from the hospital, Kate Middleton is expected to recover at her family home in Windsor, where she and Prince William relocated to in 2022 from London.
While Kate is recovering, Prince William will reduce his public engagements. This is to help better care for the couple’s three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
William will not be on official duty as long as Kate stays at the hospital. According to The Sun, the Prince of Wales was supposed to visit British troops abroad, but the “top-secret” plan was postponed.
Prince William clears schedule to take care of their children
Meanwhile, the couple was set to visit Italy and its capital, Rome – where they possibly would’ve met the Pope – but that has also been called off.
Princess Kate has to take a step back regarding her significant projects, such as the Shaping Us initiative, as she recovers. Also, they will take on fewer duties during Mental Health Awareness Week next month, during which they are expected to be heavily featured in marketing campaigns.
Prince William has visited his wife at the London Clinic several times. He is taking on the school runs while Kate rests at the hospital. Still, happily, he is supported by the family nanny, Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo, who’s been with them since 2014.
For the future king, royal engagements are not the most important thing at the moment, as he’s shown the country that family always comes first. According to royal expert Jennie Bond, it shows how William has grown into a modern father in his pursuit of modernizing the monarchy.
“William choosing not to do engagements is completely in line with their view that they make the family the most important thing as much as they possibly can,” Bond told OK! “This is a time when the kids are going to need their dad more than ever, with their mum in hospital, so he’s going to be there to reassure them.”
Meanwhile, Kate’s parents, Michael and Carole, her siblings, Pippa Matthews (former Middleton), and James will support her once she returns to their Adelaide Cottage home at Windsor.
But while Kate Middleton is surrounded by some of the best experts and doctors, William is most likely still scarred from precious experiences when worrying about family members. Not least since he lost his mother, Princess Diana, when he was only 15 years old.
William “perfectly placed to help” while Kate Middleton is recovering, royal expert says
At the same time, royal expert Jennie Bond concludes that William and Kate will have an easier time supporting their three children, Geroge, Charlotte, and Louis, as the future king knows how one could feel being worried about a parent.
Jennie Bond said that keeping a routine is “important,” but it isn’t strange that they’ll be “confused.”
“William is, sadly, perfectly placed to help. He knows exactly how it feels to be worried about your mum, and, in his case, to lose her. So he will be taking extra care to reassure the children and tell them as much, or as little, as he judges they need to hear,” she added.
“I’m sure that as soon as it is appropriate, William will take them to see her in hospital, because children need that kind of face-to-face reassurance. They’ll be FaceTiming a lot, I’m sure and showing them that Mum’s alright.”
Jennie Bond added: “He’ll be feeling emotional, stressed and probably rather bewildered by this sudden turn of events.”
“You can have every privilege in life, but your health is paramount and beyond your control. William will certainly visit Kate as much as he can, but also be there for the children. They want to keep things as normal as possible, so I’d expect William will be doing the school run, helping with homework, cooking and doing the bedtime routine.”

Just minutes after Kensington Palace announced that Kate Middleton had undergone her abdominal surgery, social media was flooded with royal fans sharing their concerns for Kate, wishing her a speedy recovery.
Royal fans sends “get well wishes” to Kate Middleton
“Feel better soon, Catherine. Even while she’s not well, she’s worried about everything going on around her. You take care of you and I’m sure people understand the need to respect your privacy for your children. They would want the same for their own,” one wrote.
Another added: “Prayers for a successful recovery for the Princess of Wales and for her lovely family as they navigate this difficult time.”
A third said: “My thoughts and prayers are with her and her whole family.”
“14 days is a long stay, hope she’s ok,” a fourth stated.
Meanwhile, it took some days before reports about their estranged family members across the Atlantic had wished the princess – and King Charles – a speedy recovery.
Just an hour after information about Kate’s surgery was made public, Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles was to go through with treatment for an enlarged prostate. The Palace had informed senior members of the royal family before the announcement.
However, the statement was put out “relatively quickly” as King Charles had to postpone several engagements.
Harry & Meghan break silence following Kate & King Charles’ health news
Therefore, there was little chance that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle got to hear the news directly from the royals – but, rather, through the news (likely due to the time difference between the US and England).
Despite the ongoing feud, a source told the Mirror that Harry and Meghan have sent “get well messages” to both Kate Middleton and King Charles amid their respective health scares.
“The King and the Princess of Wales have received support from Prince Harry and Meghan regarding their health,” the source said, adding that the couple have “contacted both parties in different ways to pass on their concern and best wishes.”
Harry and Meghan’s decision to reach out has been considered an olive branch, as the couple want to move past their allegations towards the Firm and instead focus on repairing their relationship. Time will tell if it’s too late or not.
The feud between Harry and Megan Markle and the royal family has been ongoing for years. Like the Sussexes think they’ve done the right thing, the Firm believes they haven’t acted wrongly. Several royal family members – including Prince William and Princess Kate – have been outraged about Harry and Meghan’s interviews and revelations.
Some of the things that have been revealed in Harry’s book, Spare, and in the several interviews they’ve conducted, the royals have branded nonsense and fake.
This has also put royal fans in two corners: Those who support and trust Harry and Meghan and those who believe they’ve only done the royal family wrong.
Royal expert furious over ‘disgusting’ Kate comments from Harry & Meghan fans
But while royal fans have argued with each other about who’s done right for themselves or not, now, a new type of post popped up. As reported by the Express, users on social media instantly began speculating about Kate Middleton and some even claimed her health issues were “payback after a long, stressful period.
On X, formerly Twitter, Daily Mail royal expert Richard Eden decided to address these posts – and he was furious.
“Some of the posts on here about the Princess of Wales’s health problems from #PrinceHarry and # Meghan’s supporters really disgust me,” he wrote, as per Express.
Many users on X supported Eden’s stance, with one saying: “Meghan Markle’s fan base represent her perfectly.”
Another claimed: “Well said, Richard. It’s horrific”, while a third stated: “What do you expect? Many are being paid by Markle! Evil personified.”
A fourth person commented: “Richard we’re used to it as they have attacked Catherine for 4 years. The thing is, [the Princess of Wales] is actually a lovely kind woman and they do it in the name of a fame chaser who has shown time and time again, that she’s not a nice person. Misplaced and ignorant.”
Social media user blames the media
Meanwhile, several users also took Harry and Meghan’s side because of the fact that their children have been the subjects of attacks, saying at that time, not many defended the Sussexes when it happened.
One wrote: “Do comments about the Sussexes & their children from the William & Kate supporters also disgust you? U never mention it. I wish K8 a speedy recovery but u & yr colleagues write of H&M like they’re the Moors Murderers. U r all to blame 4 this toxic situation u have helped create.”
If Harry and Meghan and William and Kate will make amends following her health issues, time will tell. However, no matter what, we are sure that both fans of the Sussexes and the Wales’ will see them become friends again, with hopes of them bringing their families closer together in the future.
